Amidst the chaos and brutality of the Vietnam War, Juni tries to keep her family safe while navigating the complexities of her tumultuous marriage, but also includes the bond of a loving family going throughout their daily routines. As she builds a life in a war-torn country, Juni encounters love, loss, and betrayal, all the while grappling with the harsh realities of conflicts that would shape a generation. It is here that her love for her entire family is tested with new events happening daily, yet routinely facing the fact that they are living within a war and learning how to accept it on a daily basis.

Norma June "Juni" Allen

I’m not actually the author, as my mom has already passed away, but I am her son, Stephen Allen, who is publishing it.

I was all fine and dandy during the publishing of this book, including not only reading it 3 different times just to reminisce about our time over there, and then proofreading it 6 different times making sure that each and every “i” was dotted and every “t” was crossed. That is, until I actually saw it published, and that’s when the tears began to flow down my cheeks.

This “book” was now turned into a real book.

This book actually set on, or in my desk for over 3 decades, until I got bored this past winter and picked it up to start reading it, as I had always thought it was just a book of all her notes. From that point on, I was mesmerized, drawn in so deep, and that’s when I knew this book was more than what I had ever imagined. At that point in time, I knew it had to be published. I spent the next 4 weeks proofreading it, as it had been typed by hand way back starting from 1979 until 1982, so there was definitely a mistake here and there.

Now, it is a real book that I can share with the world our adventures, both good and bad, that we encountered through the 7-month journey around the world. Well, at least part of the world, but back then, it was like we traveled the entire world.
